Lands Council is looking for 200 volunteers to help plant 1000 trees located on California Creek and Hangman Creek. E-mail Matt West at mwest@landscouncil.org to register to volunteer.

Tree plantings this year are targeting areas critical to watershed health.  Said Matt West, who is coordinating the effort, “We want to make this event something that not only puts trees in the ground, but also maximizes the effect those trees have on our local waterways. So, we have chosen to plant trees in riparian areas (along streams).”

Riparian areas are critical to the health and cleanliness of streams. They act as buffers keeping pollutants out, and stabilize stream banks. They are critical habitat for wildlife, and provide shade that keeps water cool allowing fish to thrive.
