{"id":405,"date":"2013-02-07T19:48:09","date_gmt":"2013-02-07T19:48:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.spokaneriver.net\/watertrail\/?p=405"},"modified":"2021-03-18T20:34:03","modified_gmt":"2021-03-18T20:34:03","slug":"fishing-plese-flats-to-little-falls-dam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.spokaneriver.net\/watertrail\/fishing-plese-flats-to-little-falls-dam\/","title":{"rendered":"Fishing Plese Flats to Little Falls Dam"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This 39.4 mile reach includes Lake Spokane and has something to offer anglers of all kinds.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Species:<br \/>\n<\/strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Plese Flats to Long Lake Dam<\/span>: Mostly located in Lake Spokane: Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout, Black Crappie, Yellow Perch, Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Long Lake Dam to Little Falls Dam<\/span>: Rainbow Trout, Chinook Salmon<\/p>\n<p><strong>Launch Information:<br \/>\n<\/strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">From Plese Flats to Nine Mile Dam<\/span>: The take-out near <a href=\"http:\/\/www.avistautilities.com\/environment\/pages\/waterflow.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nine Mile Dam<\/a> is informal with hardly any parking.\u00a0 Next available parking is approximately a mile away (Centennial Trail parking lot.)\u00a0 Watercraft users should use extreme caution since this is the last take-out before <a href=\"http:\/\/www.avistautilities.com\/environment\/pages\/waterflow.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nine Mile Dam<\/a>, which is not far away.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Lake Spokane<\/span>: The river is shallow at the Riverside State Park (Lake Spokane) launch. Caution, water fluctuations can expose or hide hazards such as stumps, making launch inoperable. The Nine Mile Resort and DNR launches, which are located on opposite ends of the lake, are particularly good for powerboats. But the Nine Mile Resort launch can become inoperable during low water conditions.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">From below Long Lake Dam to Little Falls Dam<\/span>: The only public access site is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.avistautilities.com\/environment\/pages\/waterflow.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Long Lake Dam<\/a>.\u00a0Not available for motor access, approximately 30-yard walk for those carrying watercraft. All watercraft must put-in and take-out at the same access point.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rapids and Riffles:<br \/>\n<\/strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">From Plese Flats to Nine Mile Dam<\/span>: This is a calm river section with an easy flowing current.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Lake Spokane<\/span>: Caution, the upper portion of this section consists of shallow, moving water. Water fluctuations can expose or hide hazards such as stumps.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">From below Long Lake Dam to Little Falls Dam<\/span>: Although this is mostly a reservoir environment, operations at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.avistautilities.com\/environment\/pages\/waterflow.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Long Lake Dam<\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.avistautilities.com\/environment\/pages\/waterflow.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Little Falls Dam<\/a> can create strong currents and drastic, unannounced water level fluctuations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Regulations:<br \/>\n<\/strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">From Upper Boundary of Plese Flats Day Use Area to Nine Mile Dam<\/span>: Motors prohibited. All species &#8211; selective gear rules. Trout (Sat before Memorial Day &#8211; March 15) &#8211; No minimum size, daily limit 2. Release all trout other than hatchery rainbow trout. Other game fish (Sat before Memorial Day &#8211; March 15) &#8211; Catch and release.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Lake Spokane<\/span>: Season open year-round. All game fish &#8211; Statewide min size\/daily limit. Salmon &#8211; Landlocked Salmon rules.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">From below Long Lake Dam to Little Falls Dam<\/span>: Season open year-round. River right below Chimakum Creek is the Spokane Tribe of Indians Reservation, tribal regulations apply.\u00a0 Salmon \u2013 landlocked salmon rules. All game fish \u2013 Statewide minimum size and daily limit. Sturgeon \u2013 Closed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fish Advisory:\u00a0<\/strong>Before consuming fish, consult the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.spokaneriver.net\/watertrail\/fishing\/fish-advisory\/\">Washington Department of Health&#8217;s Fish Advisory<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fishing:<br \/>\n<\/strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">From Upper Boundary of Plese Flats Day Use Area to Nine Mile Dam<\/span>: 8,000-9,000 hatchery triploid trout are stocked annually in this section.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">From Nine Mile Dam to Lake Spokane<\/span>: This riverine section is a popular trout angling destination.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Lake Spokane<\/span>: Good fishery for black crappie, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, and yellow perch.\u00a0 Caution to ice anglers, water level fluctuations can create extremely hazardous air vacuums below the ice.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This 39.4 mile reach includes Lake Spokane and has something to offer anglers of all kinds.
